North Gilbert is a showcase of the transformation of the town of Gilbert from an agricultural community to a flourishing and economically diverse southeastern suburb of the Phoenix metro. It shares this thriving area with northeast Chandler which lies on its western border. As this map also indicates, North Gilbert is bounded east by Power Road, north by Baseline Road, and south by the strategic Loop 2002 or Santan Freeway.
The town center along with several commercial hubs are located in North Gilbert. With all these magnets for residential developments, this northern part of town hosts an amazing array of communities and subdivisions.
A few blocks west of the Gilbert Civic Center, the charming lake community of The Islands developed sometime in the mid-1980s already offers several subdivisions. These neighborhoods include Charter Point, Coral Reef, Costain, Laguna Shores, Paradise Cove and Sandcastle.
Available single family homes in this development can range from about 1,400 square feet up to 3,885 square feet designed with three to five bedrooms. There are listings of multifamily homes in The Islands as well, featuring two to three bedrooms within floor areas of between 1,350 and 3,185 square feet.
Besides The Islands, several other waterfront communities are located in North Gilbert. Among these are Lago Estancia, Val Vista Lakes, and West Lake Estates. Luxury home choices also abound in North Gilbert, particularly at its eastern neighborhood, The Highlands, where choice listings can have up to seven bedrooms and floor areas of over 9,000 square feet.
Amenities: The expansive acreage of the Riparian Preserve at Water Ranch is one of the reasons why many outdoor lovers choose to settle in North Gilbert. This preserve has 4.5 miles of walking trails in addition to its abundance of bird life and opportunities for fishing.
The McQueen Park Activity Center is another popular local destination for sports and other recreational pursuits such as basketball, tennis and beach volleyball. It also features jogging trails and a picnic/barbecue area.
Gilbert’s historic district is likewise in this northern section of the town, offering cultural delights in the Hale Centre Theatre as well as a wide variety of dining establishments. For shopping, the flanks of Baseline Road is host to the Shoppes at Gilbert Commons and Stonehenge Center.
Schools: Gilbert offers some of the best school districts in Arizona. The town’s top-rated schools include the Gilbert Unified School District and the Highley Unified School District.
EDUPRIZE Schools also has a campus in this town where some of its areas are also served by nearby Mesa public schools and the Chandler Unified School District.
